Dr Muhammad Manjra is a dual fellowship* trained orthopaedic and arthroplasty (joint replacement) surgeon, specialising in reconstructive, restorative and replacement surgery of the hip and knee.

A fellowship is intense 1 year training programme whereby an orthopaedic surgeon sub-specialiises by focusing on a certain discipline in orthopaedic surgery or part of the body

I am currently in full time private practice at the Ahmed Al-Kadi Private Hospital in Durban and holds a part time senior specialist post at the hip and knee unit of Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital. Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital serves as a referral centre for the most complex and challenging cases throughout KZN and surrounding provinces.

Dr Manjra maintains a general orthopaedic practice with a focus on the management of hip and knee arthritis, including the the use of the minimally invasive Direct Anterior Approach (DAA) for total hip replacement (arthroplasty), joint preservation and reconstructive options options for younger patients, sports injuries and trauma.

Dr Manjra matriculated at Westville Boys High School in Durban, earning his full Academic Colours then departed to Johannesburg to earn his medical degree at the University of the Witwatersrand in 2009. Dr Manjra then went on to complete his orthopaedic specialist training and Masters degree at the Steve Biko Academic Hospital, University of Pretoria in 2018.

During his training, Dr Manjra was recognised as a future leader in the field of orthopaedics by being selected to travel around the country as part of the Smith & Nephew Travelling Fellowship.
Dr Manjra then travelled to Cape Town where he worked as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Tygerberg hospital in the trauma and sports orthopaedic unit. During his time here he had the honour of performing the first total hip replacement at the Karl Bremer Hospital.
In mid 2019 Dr Manjra commenced sub-speciality training by first completing the Tygerberg Hip and Knee Arthroplasty Fellowship which involved one on one mentoring with Dr Koos Jordaan in complex hip and knee surgery, the anterior approach for total hip replacement surgery and robotic knee surgery.
In 2021 Dr Manjra then travelled to Toronto, Canada to complete a hip and knee reconstruction fellowship at the Sunnybrook Holland Orthopaedic and Arthritic Centre, through the University of Toronto. This centre is one of the largest volume joint replacement centres in Canada performing up to 2500 cases per year, with the University of Toronto ranked amongst the top 3 Global Universities for Surgery.

During his training Dr Manjra has participated in several research studies related to orthopaedic trauma and joint replacement surgery and has received numerous awards both locally and internationally. He has published papers in both local and international peer reviewed journals in the fields of orthopaedic trauma and joint replacement surgery.

When he is not working, Dr Manjra maximises time with his family and can commonly be found on the weekend onboard a bike or board on the Durban beachfront or a mountain bike trail.
