Very excited to have been a part of this paper, which as far as we know, is the first paper from Africa to be able to comprehensively report on mortality rates from femoral neck fractures treated with arthroplasty.
In the absence of joint registries, previous papers have relied on hospital records for mortality data which is notoriously unreliable, especially in such a heterogenous health system.
In this paper mortality statistics were obtained directly from the department of home affairs-not an easy process. All credit to my mentor Koos Jordaan for driving this process!
