Day 0 (the day of surgery)
You will be seen by Dr Manjra and your physiotherapist. You will be assessed to see if you are able to start mobilizing Young and motivated patients are who are able to mobilise early sometimes go home on the same day!
Day 1 (the day after surgery)
Dr Manjra will check on you during his morning ward rounds. After which your physiotherapist will assist in mobilizing you with a walking aid. Many patients are able to go home on this day as long as they are able to mobilise safely. The intravenous medication will be stopped and you will be changed to oral medication
Day 2 (if you are still in hospital)
Dr Manjra will check on you during his morning ward rounds. After which you will continue physiotherapy and get ready to go home.
You will be given medication to take home for the following:
- Pain medication
- Anti-inflammatory medication
- Blood thinning medication to prevent clots
- Stool softeners
2-3 Weeks (Wound care visit)
After surgery Dr Manjra will open your dressing assess your wound
